Sing About me is one of the realest songs ever created and a testament to his vision.
With the soulful track “Sing about me,” K.Dot gives us an inside look into his personal
life and how it used to be. He breaks it down into each storytelling verse from different perspectives.
The first verse being told from a man named Dave who falls into gang live and offers Kendrick positive
advice. Informing him to follow his dream and says “If I die before your album drop.. (Gun shots)..”
Which represents Dave dying after steering Kendrick away from that life.
The second verse is told from Keisha’s sister’s perspective in which he speaks about in his ‘Section.80′
track. He speaks about her confronting Kendrick about putting out a song about Keisha.
The third verse is from Kendrick’s own perspective. He offers an explanation to individuals he has
spoken about in his lyrics. Also hoping that after he’s gone people will continue to speak and sing about
him.
This song is so real Kendrick. This has to be one of my favorite joints of yours.Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear this song because its so sad how our black men are dying and just everything that goes on in the black community. I just love the fact that you are not only a lyricist but a phenomenal TRUE story teller.not like majority of these rappers rapping about things they never witnessed or been through. Rappers like you is what will keep hip hop alive.
This is Kendrick’s best song without a doubt. This song and “I Hate You” are unique.
